Finland’s D-beat Hardcore Punk band Kürøishi is finally dropping their monster second LP “Sound The Alarm”. While the sold-out first LP “Poverty. Ignorance. Greed. Slavery” stemmed from a traditional Scandinavian style of “Tragedy via Wolfbrigade”, “Sound the Alarm” LP leans a lot more on a tasteful Japanese hardcore influence. The Tragedy heaviness and bleak atmosphere is still prevalent, with crushing dirges and desperate melodic riffing, but here the songs are more guitar-focused, with blazing guitar leads and huge epic guitar solos pumping adrenaline to the extreme. Set that to high-charge tempos and throw in some big gang choruses with guest appearances from bands like Think Again/ Systematic Death, NoLA, No Excuse, Vivisektio and Rotten Sound, and you’ve got your winter soundtrack all sorted out. Recorded and mixed by Antti Lindholm at Boat Island Studio April – July 2019 and mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door Mastering (Martyrdöd, Forward, Framtid etc.). “Sound The Alarm” comes with a sleeve drawn and painted by none other than the true japanese artist and legend Akihiko “Sugi” Sugimoto himself.

However, the prospect of delivering new music in their own unique death/thrash metal style was one of the main reasons why the core members reunited in 2010 in the first place. During its initial run from 1984 to ’94, the band wasn’t even close to having the final word, especially with regards to their seminal first record “Spectrum of Death” (1990). “Swallowed By Hell” was born from a remote creative exchange, with ideas being bounced back and forth between all members to create a ten-track barrage of extreme metal like it’s become rare these days – utterly punishing yet musically sophisticated, pushing limits but not for its own sake, and topped off by an artwork from the iconic Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth). Recorded at The Belle City Sound Company by Chris Djuricic (Num Skull, Disinter) with finishing touches put on at Chernobyl Studios by Scott Elliott, “Swallowed By Hell” reeks of the old school but plants its feet firmly on contemporary ground.

  • Blood Offerings is Oakland, CA-based old-school death metal merchants Necrot's debut album. An onslaught of buzz-sawing riffs and spine-rupturing rhythms - an authentic, sonic bludgeoning delivered in the same realm as Bolt Thrower and Autopsy.
  • Necrot is a three-piece Death Metal band based in Oakland, California. They play a unique style of old-school death metal with a crust punk edge, employing unexpected time changes and an interesting variety of rhythms. While most "new-old-school" death metal bands don't deviate much from the blueprint laid out by the genres pioneers, namely Autopsy, Death, Entombed, Morbid Angel and Bolt Thrower, Necrot manage to stand out from the rest of the pack and prove that there is still room for innovation in this kind of music. This of course doesn't mean you won't hear the influence of bands like Sepultura, Grave, Dismember and maybe a bit of Utopia Banished-era Napalm Death in their music, but once your ears are assaulted by their exceptionally grisly and agonized growls as well as their very distinct guitar tone (which sounds like a vacuum sucking up gravel, or a power-saw grinding through bone, or maybe an avocado pit getting stuck in the garbage disposal) you'll be too dumbfounded by Necrot's sheer brutality to care about their influences.  If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out The Labyrinth. These Oakland death metal locals (ex Acephalix) are quickly gaining speed, and popularity across the world. If you're wondering why, well, there is no need to at all. Crush your brain into submission with this awesome release, and keep your ears open for something from them coming soon.
